Home made grilled catfish the Nigerian way
Grilled fish recipe doesn’t need much. The key to the best tasting meat/fish is to have the right combination of spices. Marinating the raw meat/fish for the right amount of time in the right spices.
Who doesn’t like grilled catfish? I bet we all do. However, preparing a home-made version is even more superb!!! This very delicious, juicy and tasty dish will surely get to ignite the taste bud of the whole family. So, let’s teach you how to make barbecue fish at home.
- 1/2 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp Cameroon pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ginger powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Optional: 1 tsp suya spice
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 Catfish
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 bell pepper
- 1/2 scotch bonnet pepper
- 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 stock cube
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp curry
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Wash and clean the fish with its gut thoroughly
Combine all the spices and oil and rub over the fish on both sides place little cuts on the fish to allow the spice enter into the fish. Leave to marinate for 1hr or overnight (preferred).
Pre-set oven to an optimum temperature
Place fish on a grill rack and place baking pan under the rack to capture any liquid spill.
Live to bake for about 25 to 30 minutes then lower down the temperature for about 5 minutes.
- For sauce
Coarsely blend tomatoes, bell pepper, and scotch bonnet pepper.
Sauté onions in oil over medium heat then add tomato and pepper mix.
Season with a stock cube, thyme, and curry.
Fry for 15 minutes and taste for salt. Adjust as needed.
Spread some on top of fish or serve as a side.
Serve with salad or fried yam, plantain, chips e.t.c
