Strike: Stakeholders plead with ASUU to shift their grounds for educational development in the country

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Architect Sunusi Waziri Gumau has pleaded with the striking Academic Staff of Polytechnics in the country to shift their grounds for the educational development of the younger generation.

The Rector made the plead at the maiden edition of theNortheast Zonal Competition of N- Power Build Construction Artisans Awards, twenty nineteen held at the Institution.

Architect Sunusi Gumau however requested the federal government to find lasting solution by engaging the striking staff in order to salvage the sector from total collapse.

The Rector, who is the Chairman Local Organizing Committee of the Competition, noted that the Construction Artisans Award will promote workmanship which is key to preventing building collapse and providing opportunity for the country to export skilled and competent labour force.

According to him, the award will also give opportunity tothe participants to network, improve renumerations and enhance carrier progression.

Sunusi Gumau who described the competition as the first of it’s kind in the northeast, said it was in line with the present administration’s drive for economic diversification for human capital development.

In a key note address, the convener of the Construction Artisans Awards, Builder Anthony Aboki Okwa said the skills competitions had been designed for skilled artisans to showcase the knowledge, skills and experience acquired over the years.

Builder Anthony Aboki further explained that the Awards was aimed at developing a strategy for embedding skills competition in construction training so as to generate income for the development of skills training infrastructure and materials, among others.

Declaring the competition opened, the Bauchi State Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar challenged the participants to assist towards finding lasting solution to the collapse of building in the country.

Represented by his Deputy, Architect Audu Sule Katagum, the governor assured that his administration will continue to train youth in Environmental Teachnology and Building to prevent building collapse.
